Icelandic international Thorvaldsson has been training with the Royals on and off since November, and scored twice in a 2-0 reserve team win over Bristol Rovers.

He has now completed the paperwork on a loan deal until the end of the season from Danish club Esbjerg with the option of a permanent deal, and a 2 year contract, if the move goes well.

Thorvaldsson, who will wear the number 36 shirt, was delighted to secure the move and Ivar Ingimarsson’s cousin spoke to the official site when he completed the move. ‘It feels very good to be here, I’m looking forward to the challenge and hopefully I can do something good.’

He won’t be available for selection against Liverpool on Saturday under international transfer regulations but could make his debut the following week against Newcastle in the vital league game at the Madejski Stadium.

The Icelandic international will be under massive pressure to score goals from the first minute he steps on the pitch, however fair that might be. The boards ‘cloth cutting’ means that he is likely to be the only arrival at the Madejski Stadium and with the lack of goals scored by the current Royals strikers so far this season, fans will be pinning their hopes of survival on him.
