Sigurdsson, dubbed ‘The Sig’ by Royals fans, has worked his way up through the academy after arriving in Berkshire as a 14 year old from Iceland. After being on the fringes of the first team last season under Steve Coppell, he has now forced his way in and has become a key player in the Royals midfield under Brendan Rodgers.


He scored his third goal of the season in last Saturdays win over Blackpool and has featured in a number of position’s including wide left and as an attacking midfielder.


Gylfi has also become a regular in Iceland’s under 21 squad and scored twice in a recent win over San Marino.


His new deal will see the 20 year old commited to the club until the summer of 2012.
