With great thanks to Vital Manchester United editor Red Boy, Vital Reading asks a few questions ahead of Saturday’s game. We ask about the rumours surrounding the future of Wayne Rooney, United’s inform players going into the encounter and his prediction for the game.

——————————————————

1) You are currently 12 points clear of Manchester City, how confident are you that the title will be heading to the red side of Manchester?

I’m quietly confident but not counting my chickens until they’ve hatched, after all we all saw what happened last season. But the lead is a nice safety net if we do find ourselves dropping points and as they say, it is ours to throw away.

2) Having exited the Champions League, would you like United to focus more on the FA Cup now, with the league appearing to be in the bag?

We’ve a difficult quarter-final to resolve first, with a replay at Stamford Bridge and then the draw done us no favours by pairing us with City in the semi. But I’d hope our Champions League disappointment can be channeled into capturing a domestic double.

3) The future of Wayne Rooney has been called into question over the past week, do you think it’s just a load of rubbish and he will stay?

No smoke without fire? Or just lazy tabloid journalism? You’re never sure where Sir Alex Ferguson is concerned. Has he decided Rooney’s best days are behind him or was the Real Madrid game just horses for courses? My money is on him staying though.

4) What are your strengths and weaknesses as a team that you have noticed over the past couple of games?

After going behind so early on, in so many games, we’ve reversed the trend and now we’re taking the lead early on, unfortunately we’re having trouble holding on to that lead, as Real Madrid and Chelsea have shown over the past two games, something I understand Reading might be able to capitalize on if your recent trait is anything to go by!

5) Who are United’s inform players going into Saturday’s game?

Shinji Kagawa recently hit a hat-trick, against Norwich, Hernandez has discovered his eye for goal, but Van Persie is the man, given half a chance!

6) What Reading player do you rate the most and why?

Adam Le Fondre – A Natural goal-scorer and someone you can’t legislate for!

7) Who can you seeing going down this season? Don’t feel bad to say us, most of us Royals fans are weighing up our fate!

Relegation, the dreaded word! I reckon Queens Park Rangers, despite Harry Redknapp’s intervention, are doomed. I can also see Aston Villa slipping out of the top-flight and, sorry, Reading!

8) What sort of team and shape do you think we will see Sir Alex put out?

It’ll be the normal 4-4-2 with Sir Alex playing two wide in the middle four and with any two from four (Van Persie, Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck) up front, a tried and tested formation

9) Give us a neutral opinion on the sacking of Brian McDermott?

I could see it coming, following your recent form and a desire to remain in the Premier League but it still is a hard thing to swallow, even more so after McDermott led you to the promised land.

10) What’s your prediction for the game?

A United win (sorry), by at least two clear goals.
