Vital Reading season preview

Club: Ipswich Town

Founded: 1878

Nickname: The Tractor Boys

Ground: Portman Road (Capacity: 30,311)

When we face off: Sat 16th August (H), Sat 21st February (A)

Last season finish: 9th – Championship

Manager: Mick McCarthy – There is no doubting that the Irishman hasn’t lost his passion for management, despite a sour end to his time as Wolves manager. The job he has done with Ipswich has gone very un noticed, slowly improving their league position over the past two-and-a-half seasons he has been in charge. I’m sure Mick would love another crack at the top level and he will probably feel he can do just that with Ipswich.

Key player: David McGoldrick – The former Forest striker was having a fantastic season last year, where he scored 14 goals in 34 league games, before he suffered a medial ligament injury in February, ruling him out for the remaining season. However, he has managed to get some pre-season games under his belt and looks set to start in our first home game in two weeks time, where we face the Tractor Boys at the Madejski Stadium.

Season Preview: Ipswich were in play-off contention for the majority of the season, but fell away in the final three games, with an injury to key striker David McGoldrick not helping the situation. The additions of both Jonathan Parr and Cameron Stewart give Ipswich a great wide partnership on the left, but could do with more central midfield options yo exploit this width and to feed the likes of McGoldrick and Murphy. I imagine that Ipswich will once again be in play-off contention this season.
