Vital Reading season preview

Club: Huddersfield Town

Founded: 1908

Nickname: The Terriers

Ground: John Smith’s Stadium (Capacity: 24,500)

When we face off: Sat 14th December (A), Sat 29th March (H)

Last season finish: 19th – Championship

Manager: Mark Robins – The former Manchester United winger has excelled at his previous three managerial tenures, but had a stuttering start as Terriers boss. Robins’ side struggled in his opening games, but gained some form at the right time at the end of the season, as Huddersfield stayed up on the last day. Robins will now want to be judged from the season’s start, now he has had an opportunity to have a pre-season with his squad and bring the appropriate players in

Key player: James Vaughan – The former England under 21 international didn’t really get his chance at Norwich, but found some good form with the Terriers last season. Vaughan scored 14 goals in 33 games last campaign, which was the main reason behind Huddersfield completing a permanent move for the striker this summer. He an abundance of power and pace, as well as good composure in front of goal.

Season Preview – It was a very close run thing for the Terriers last season, so they will want a strong start to the upcoming campaign. Robins has made some great additions with Vaughan and his former player at Barnsley, Adam Hammill, and the experience of Martin Paterson. The likes of Adam Clayton, Anthony Gerrard and the great potential of Jack Hunt, gives Robins a good squad to work with. On paper, you could certainly see Huddersfield being a dark horse this season and possibly sneaking into the play offs!
