Reading midfielder Jay Tabb has said that the key aim of the season should be to keep the club in the Premier League, but feels the club can go further.
The 28-year old has always remained certain he wants to stay at the Madejski Stadium, despite not being a regular in the team. Tabb made 21 appearances for the Royals last season, but once again failed to score a single goal, which he is yet to do in his entire Reading career. However, Tabb has remained adamant he can play a part in the upcoming Premier League campaign.
Speaking to SkySports.com, Tabb said: ‘I have never played in the Premiership before, so just to get there is an achievement in itself. But when you look at how Swansea and Norwich did last season, that makes you think you could do a bit better. But I think for the club financially to be stable, just to stay up would be the first aim.’
‘But I don’t run the club and I’m not putting the money in – maybe the owners and the manager have high expectations. You have got the top five or six who are quite a bit above the rest, but after that it is quite even. Swansea and Norwich will be looking to build on what they did last season as well, although that will be tough.’
Despite many questioning his future at the club, the former Coventry player will remain a crucial asset to the Royals squad through his good versatility. Tabb has played right-back, left back, on the wing and his traditional centre-midfield spot, but has failed to nail down a regular spot in the team during his three-year tenure.
