Tabb admits he has to fight to keep place

Reading midfielder Jay Tabb has said that he will fight to keep his place in the starting XI, with Jem Karacan and Danny Guthrie close to returning from injury.

The 28-year old has come into the side following an injury to first choice midfielder Jem Karacan, but Tabby has embraced his place in the team and is clearly cherishing it. The former Coventry player has never been a regular in Brian McDermott’s team, but admits when he gets the chance, he will fight to keep his spot in the side.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Tabb said: ‘I don’t think I’ll be that player that’s always guaranteed to be on the team sheet, I’ll always have to earn it. Each game I’m always trying to prove myself to the manager and the fans. Jem and Danny are getting closer to fitness every day – which puts pressure on myself to play well in every game.’

‘If you have a bad game and the results don’t come then you can be out of the side. But that’s the nature of football and the nature of having a talented squad like we have. I was a little bit nervous at Swansea for my first Premier League game, but I can honestly say that since then I’ve gone out and enjoyed every game.’

These quotes sum up what Jay is like as a player on the pitch, as well as off it, he takes nothing for granted. He openly admits he is not the greatest player, but will work hard to keep his spot in the starting XI. If anyone needs to be worried about Jem’s or Guthrie’s return, it should be Leigertwood, as he hasn’t exactly impressed me in recent games.
