Reading winger John Oster has been troubled with an ankle injury this season and this has restricted him to just one start this season. It has now been revealed that after consultations with a specialist he will have surgery that is hoped will once and for all clear up his problem.

Reading physio John Fearn has told the Reading website that Oster will undergo this surgery on Monday: “We saw a specialist on Tuesday to discuss the problem.

“He agreed that we’ve done as much as we can in terms of conservative treatment.

“Now we’ll look at surgery next Monday.

“How long he’ll be out depends on what we find when we go in. He has an inflamed ankle, which is aggravated by some bone in the back of the ankle.

“We’ll have that bone removed, and then allow the joint to heal through rest and recuperation.”

The Welsh international has struggled with the injury this season, with several attempted reserve comebacks ending with him limping away from matches.
