Reading were subjected to their fifth successive Premier League defeat, as they were thrashed 3-0 by Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

It was the worse possible start for the Royals, as they went behind in just under three minutes in the North-East. James McClean pounced on Adam Federici’s weak punch from a corner and struck home with a well-hit half volley. The lead was doubled on 28 minutes, as Steven Fletcher diverted James McClean’s cross in with a clever flick.

Reading portrayed another toothless performance and worked Black Cats keeper Mingnolet on the rare occasion in the match. The game was rounded off when Sessegnon breezed through the Royals defence and rounded keeper Adam Federici to heap more misery on a poor Reading side, that are now six points away from escaping the relegation zone.
