Jason Roberts has finally called time on his playing career, after fifteen months savaged with injury.

The 36-year old has not played for Reading since the 1-0 loss to Southampton in December 2012 due to a hip injury. Roberts had a hip operation last year, but suffered further setbacks in his progress and today made the decision to call time on his career.

He will still be under contract with us until the end of the season, but it’s end will officially signify the end of his career. The striker had an illustrious career and arguably played a massive part in the Royals’ promotion campaign in 2012, with six goals in seventeen games.

I agree it is rather annoying that we didn’t pay him off at the beginning of the season, so we could use his wages elsewhere. However, as much as some fans love to criticise him, you can’t fault his impact when he joined back in January 2012 – good luck Jason!
