Ibrahima Sonko has rejected Reading’s initial contract offer to him, sparking speculation a return to his former club looks unlikely.

The contract was believed to be a one-year deal and offering him a measly £2,000 a week, taking a 90% pay cut from his previous contract at Stoke.

The 30-year has been using his Twitter account to publish information on the move. He stated to one follower: ‘If u new what they offer u old understand why I said no’.

Reading boss Brian McDermott has had his say on the matter: ‘He wasn`t happy with that offer and in our view we thought it was decent. It wasn`t a pay-as-you-play deal it was a decent contract. That`s his prerogative.’

A number of other clubs are still monitoring Sonko’s situation with Ipswich keen on the Senegalese international, again backed up on Sonko’s twitter account.

He said to another follower: ‘there was not a follow up from reading . It looks like I cld meet with my friend ivar again soon Instead’ which could pave the way for a move to Ipswich Town, making a deal back to Reading look near enough dead and buried.
