Reading could line up a bid for Blackburn striker Yakubu, if Rovers are relegated to the Championship.

The 29-year old forward is the joint fourth Premier League top scorer, behind the likes of Rooney, Augero and Van Persie. Reading boss Brian McDermott would be keen to add to a front line that has only managed one player getting into double figures for the season, that player being Adam Le Fondre.

Yakubu has been a relatively prolific striker in his two most recent spells at clubs. In his short tenure at Leicester last season, he managed to score 11 goals in 20 appearances under Sven Goran-Erikkson. It was also reported that Yakubu attracted interest from QPR in the January transfer window, but turned down their advances in loyalty to Blackburn.

The Royals have already been linked with a host of strikers in recent weeks, with Senegalese international Dame N’Doye and Crystal Palace’s Wilfred Zaha linked most prominently. Other names include Icelandic striker Bjorn Sigardsson, Fulham’s Andrew Johnson and former striker Kevin Doyle.
