Royals to face Rams in next round

It is not exactly the most exciting cup tie for either team, but we have been drawn with Derby in the next round of the League Cup.

Our 1-0 victory over Scunthorpe secured a place in the third round of the cup, which will be played against Steve McClaren’s side at the iPro Stadium. The game is set to take place on Tuesday 23rd September, as it probably won’t be fashionable enough for TV.

The last time we played at Pride Park was back in September last year, as we were 3-1 victors over the Rams, when they had Nigel Clough in charge. I doubt it will be that easy this time round, as Derby are a much improved side since last year.

It’s far from the glamour tie, but hopefully come next month, we will have a few players back from injury to have a chance in this one. Both teams will obviously be more focused on the league, but a good cup run can always do a few favours for the league campaign.
