Royals midfielder ruled out for the season

Reading midfielder Jem Karacan has suffered a broken ankle, picked up from the win over Leeds on Friday.

The 23-year old was the victim of several overly-aggressive challenges in the game, with Michael Brown’s scissor tackle on causing the break shortly before half time. Karacan went for a scan at the Royal Berkshire hospital that revealed it as ankle break, meaning he will definitely the rest of the season and possibly some of pre-season training.

Karacan told the official RFC site: ‘Obviously I’m gutted my season is over but the main thing was the win, I was buzzing for that really. Now the main thing is for the boys to keep doing it and for us to get over the finishing line. I can get it fixed, do my rehab over the summer and come back bigger, better and stronger.’

‘The supporters have been brilliant with me, I want to say a big thanks to them for cheering me on every minute this season, now I’ll get ready for next year, hopefully another big season for me. When I left the ground on crutches they were all seeing how I was and obviously on Twitter I’ve been bombarded with get well soons which is great.’

The Turkish midfielder has very much been battered and bruised recently, also suffering a broken nose in the 4-2 win over West Ham last week. Jem has been a crucial player in our promotion push over the past few months, forming a formidable partnership with Mikele Leigertwood that has seen them both chip in four goals over the last five games.
