Nigel Adkins is yet to use the emergency loan market, but admits he is happy to use it if necessary.

Some fans have been calling for defensive reinforcements, after injuries to Shaun Cummings and Anton Ferdinand, leaving us with just five ‘reasonably’ experienced fit defenders at the club. While the gaffer is aware of the option, he is not going to use it for the sake of it.

Speaking to the Reading Post about possible loan deals, Adkins said: “There is a situation where we could do something, if required, but it needs to be the right person. We`ve promoted so many players through from the academy this season and that pathway has to be there for us.’

‘We don`t want to do something just for the sake of it. There`s a month left to go. There is work that goes on behind the scenes, but we`ve got players coming back from injury remember. We`ve got Garath McCleary and Danny Williams coming back. They will be like new signings.’

I am surprised Adkins hasn’t at least brought in another centre-back, as any injury to Pearce or Hector could leave us seriously exposed. McDermott was also wary about loan players, which I can’t understand, as it makes sense in the short-term for the player and the club.
