After getting pre season underway with a convincing win over Didcot on Wednesday, it was somewhat disappointing to get beaten by Conference side Kettering. Ok, so results are not everything but considering this was a strong Royals side Brendan Rodgers won’t be too happy.

It started well when Simon Church bagged his second goal of pre season after 11 minutes but a second half double from Jean Paul Marna, the second in the last minute, gave the Poppies the win.

The side was captained by Alex Pearce, who now appears to be the favourite to take over the role on a permanent basis.

After a run out on Monday night in Graeme Murty’s testimonial, the squad head off to Sweden and will play three matches over there.

Reading fans will hope to see a few more new faces by then as the squad is looking a bit fragile at the moment, as this game proved.

In the other ppre season game, a Reading XI side including Chris Armstrong, Andre Bikey and David Mooney, beat Tooting & Mitcham 3-0.
