Not long after Vital Reading gave its full backing to Brendan Rodgers, the club announced that he has been sacked with immediate effect. The decision was made after a meeting with the clubs board on Wednesday afternoon.

The official statement from Reading FC reads, ‘Following a meeting this afternoon, the chairman, the board of directors and Brendan Rodgers have agreed by mutual consent that Brendan Rodgers will leave his position as first team manager with immediate effect. Reading FC will make no further comment at this stage.’

I have to say this has come a very surprising move and a bold decision by the club. Whilst Rodgers had not had the results he would have expected to get, things have improved greatly in recent weeks.

However with funds tight ahead of the transfer window in January, they have made the decision to sack him now and get a new man in so he can get the players he wants to help get us clear of relegation this season.

Chief Scout Brian McDermott has been put in temporary charge, starting with Saturday’s trip to Bristol City.
