A strong-looking Reading reserve side squandered a 2-0 lead against Southampton, eventually losing the match 3-2.

The Royals side contained many senior names with the likes of Brynjar Gunnarsson, Brian Howard and Adam Le Fondre. The game also saw a first appearance for Karl Sheppard in a Reading shirt, while Tomasz Cywka was also given a start.

Young striker Dominic Samuel also found a place in the side after some fine performances for the youth side and duely opened the scoring, as he smashed the ball home from a Brian Howard corner.

New January window signing Tomasz Cywka, who won a penalty against Bristol on Saturday, also found himself on the scoresheet. Promising midfielder Lawson D’Ath slotted a perfect ball, for the 23-year old to cooly slot home.

However, despite the two goal lead, the Royals were to get undone in the second half thanks to goals from James Ward-Prowse, Alberto Seidi and Jon Cutris to put together an astonishing comeback.
