Reading are considering a £5 million move for West Ham striker Carlton Cole, according to the Daily Mail.

The 28-year old is facing high competition at Upton Park, with Ricardo Vaz Te, Nicky Maynard and Modibo Maïga all vying for a starting place in Sam Allardyce’s side. The Mirror believe the deal could well depend on the Hammers snapping up England international Andy Carroll from Liverpool in the next week.

Royals boss Brian McDermott could well be in the market for another forward himself, with Simon Church likely to complete a loan move to the Championship in the new few days. Cole, who has seven caps for England, has scored 45 goals in 181 appearances for the Hammers in his six year tenure.
