There are a small group of players we seemed to be linked with every transfer window. It is your turn, Charlie Austin.

The 24-year old was believed to be on the verge of completing a move to recently-promoted Hull City, but the former Swindon striker failed his medical. The Daily Mail has reported that Adkins will now try his luck for the forward, who scored 28 goals in 40 games last season.

Austin was released by Reading when he was 15 years old, for being too small, despite now standing at 6’2. The Mail also believes that Burnley could be willing to accept a discounted bid of £2.5 million, but I’m not sure why his failed medical could have anything to do with his price tag.

I would not want to spend anything over £3 million for Austin, despite his goal record at this level. The rise he has made in recent years is beyond incredible, but has he got what it takes to be playing at the highest level? Time will tell.
