Reading have attracted the attentions of the broadsheet newspapers all season long with being runaway leaders of the Championship, here is what some papers had to say about us after yesterday?s promotion.

After an unbeaten run of 33 games that ended only last month at Luton, it was only a matter of time until Reading were promoted.
Nevertheless joy was unconfined among their 3,000 travelling fans yesterday when the Premiership prize was clinched.

IT WASN?T quite the swashbuckling manner in which they wanted to do it, with Kevin Doyle?s late equaliser being assisted by sloppy performances from Leeds United and Millwall, but no matter. After 135 years of feeding off scráps, Reading have reached the top table. Yesterday?s draw with a belligerent Leicester City could have been an anti-climax, but afterwards the visiting players danced themselves dizzy in front of their dazzled 3,000 travelling supporters.

Doyle’s late leveller takes Reading up


Reading confirmed what has long been inevitable – promotion to the Premiership – but not in the manner that has seen them dominate the Championship all season. Victory over a revitalised Leicester City side would have guaranteed promotion for Steve Coppell’s side but, in the end, the combination of a hard-earned draw at the Walkers Stadium plus a defeat for Watford and Leeds United’s failure to overcome Stoke City did the job for them.
