Reading have been confirmed as the winners of the Championship, following Southampton’s loss to Middlesbrough.
The Royals could only draw 2-2 with Crystal Palace earlier this afternoon, meaning if Southampton avoided defeat at Boro then it would go down to the final day against Birmingham next Saturday. However, despite taking an early lead thanks to Billy Sharp, Middlesbrough came back to win and keep their own play-off hopes alive.
The Championship trophy itself cannot be presented next weekend in front of the 4,200 visiting Reading fans at Birmingham due to the Football League’s regulations. It will however be presented the following day on the ‘Celebration Day’, where the team will parade around the town before returning to the Madejski Stadium.
