Reading Could Lose Kelly

It’s been claimed by HITC Sport – and what they understand from club sources – Reading ‘face a battle’ to retain the services of Liam Kelly.

As we know Kelly’s already been linked with a move to Rangers this season. However, Jaap Stam remains hopeful of keeping the Republic of Ireland U21 at the Madjeski Stadium beyond the end of his current deal.

Reading could lose Kelly on a free transfer – well, bar any compensation fee – at the end of the season if a new deal isn’t agreed. These latest reports say clubs in England and Scotland are ‘keeping tabs’ on the highly rated midfielder.

Stam has given Kelly his chance this season with the 21 year old starting the last three games for Reading so he’s clearly important to the future plans of the Royals boss. However, all the while he hasn’t agreed a new deal we risk losing him.

If these reports have any basis – and a new deal isn’t signed soon – Reading might have to decide if we look to capitalise on any potential interest in January or leave any possible exit to a tribunal to decide his fee – should an agreement not be reached with an interested club – assuming an extended contract can’t be agreed.

Hopefully we’ll secure Kelly’s future and this wouldn’t be an issue anyway!
