Reading have completed the signing of French striker Cederic Baseya on a free transfer, with the 23-year signing a one-year deal at the Madejski Stadium.

The 6’4 striker’s deal may also be extended depending on his development. Reading boss Brian McDermott said: ‘He’s about 6 ft 4 ins and he’s good in the air so will win headers, he’s aggressive, and he’s still very young.’

‘We’ve known about him for quite a while now. He has played out in France and was at Southampton as a youngster. So he’s pleased to come here and it’s a deal we’re pleased to do. I’m sure he’ll do really well in the next year.’

The forward has already had a short spell in England with Championship rivals Southampton, where he only made one substitute appearance before moving to French side Lille.

Baseya was then loaned to Mathieu Manset’s former club Le Harve, where he made 19 appearances but failed to score in his period there.
