Reading ended their eight-game losing run, as they fought valiantly in a goalless game with Liverpool at the Madejski Stadium.

The game was a return for former boss Brendan Rodgers and his side were the better of the two teams in the first period, with Chris Gunter clearing Suarez’s effort of the line in the opening exchanges. After the half time break, the Uruguayan had the ball in the net, but only to be thwarted by the linesmans’ flag.

Adkins’ side improved massively in the second period and put the Reds under notable pressure and made it very hard for the visitors. Noel Hunt forced Pepe Reina into a superb point blanc save, but it was the heroics of Alex McCarthy that stole the show, making some superb saves in the later stages of the game, to secure the Royals a point.
