Transfer deadline day 1st September 2009 will not live long in the memory of too many fans across the country, and that will be the same for Royals fans who only saw Darren O’Dea coming in on a short term loan.

Whilst many exciting moves were touted around, including a deal to sign Brian Howard in a swap deal for James Harper, but apart from a low key arrival of a young Celtic centre half it was an uneventful day.

There were a number of decent signings made by Championship clubs, most notably QPR who secured the loan signing of midfielder Ben Watson.

There were a few ex Royals making the headlines with Ibrahima Sonko joining Hull on loan for the season whilst Nicky Shorey saw a loan move to Portsmouth fall through at the last minute.
