Vital Reading Season Preview – Wigan
Club: Wigan Athletic
Founded: 1932
Nickname: The Latics
Ground: DW Stadium (Capacity: 25,138)
When we face off: Sat 24th November (A), Sat 23rd February (H)
Last season finish: 15th – Premier League
Manager: Roberto Martinez – The Spaniard continues to maintain his reputation of one of the best young managers in the Premier League. Having already turned down Liverpool this summer and Aston Villa last season, it appears Martinez still has the passion and fight to take the Latics forward.
Key player: Ali Al-Habsi – The ever-so reliable Oman goalkeeper continues to impress at his tenure with Wigan and was crucial in their Premier League survival last season. He won Wigan’s player of the season in the 2010-11 campaign and won ‘Away’ player of the season this year.
Season Preview: Wigan’s season could highly depend on whether they lose the services of Victor Moses, who has proven to be a superb player at the DW Stadium. If the Latics play how they did in the final third of last season, they will certainly stay up. However, if they have yet another slow start, it may not be as easy this time round.
Not a bad review however, Victor Moses isn’t the ‘key’ player people make out.
