Alex Pearce has finally been recalled for the Republic of Ireland, but I take it he wasn’t selected on his showing last week!
The 24-year old defender was often omitted for his country under previous boss Giovanni Trapattoni, who somehow preferred Darren O’Dea to Pearce. However, caretaker boss Noel King, who is naming the squad on the new manager, Martin O’Neill’s, behalf.
Fellow Royals defender Stephen Kelly is also in the 27-man squad, including former striker Shane Long. They are set to play friendlies against Poland and Kaspars Gorkss’ Latvia side next week, so both players are likely to get some game time.
