Former Royals manager Alan Pardew has landed on his feet after being appointed the new manager of Newcastle on a long term deal! He replaces Chris Houghton who was sacked on Monday despite guiding the club back to the Premiership last season, and to the safety of mid table this term.

Pardew left the Madejski Stadium in 2003 to take over at West Ham and has since managed Charlton and Southampton, with limited success.

He has now been given a 5 and a half year deal at St James Park and is good pals with Derek Llambias, the director at the club.

It is a strange appointment, especially considering Martin Jol was the favourite for the job.
