On loan defender O’Dea has captained the Irish under 21’s and on Tuesday night he made his debut for the full squad in the 1-0 win over South Africa.

O’Dea slotted in at centre back just after the hour replacing Hull’s Paul McShane and was solid throughout his appearance.

Liam Lawrence scored the only goal of the game in the first half and the team was captained by former Royal Kevin Doyle.
