The Royals grabbed a hard earned point at Millwall to deny the Lions an 8th straight home win, and continued our own unbeaten run. Adam Federici made a number of fine saves whilst home keeper David Forde also denied Shane Long and Jem Karacan in the second half.
Brian McDermott decided that Brynjar Gunnarsson could not manage two games in four days, so opted to bring in Simon Church and revert to a 4-4-2 formation. The game started in torrential rain and Jobi McAnuff and Jimmy Abdou both spurned chances at either end, and then Millwall were extremely unlucky to still have 11 men on the pitch when Paul Robinson hauled down Shane Long but only got a yellow card.
Adam Federici was in fine form and denied Steve Morison three times in the first half, the last of which was truly outstanding. Jimmy Kebe also had a goal disallowed before half time, a very close call for offside after the winger volleyed home.
Matt Mills was dominating at the back for the Royals and had to be alert after a rare mistake from Jobi McAnuff allowed the Lions a chance, whilst Darren Ward wasted a great opportunity from a corner.
David Forde, the Millwall keeper, was also in fine form and he made a brilliant save from Long after McAnuff set him up with a fine ball into the box. Jem Karacan also went very close, but Forde turned the ball onto the post to keep the game goal less.
In the closing stages, Alex Pearce cocked up but Mills was on hand to clear the ball once again and Alan Dunne denied the inspirational Kebe at the other end. So both sides were made to settle for a point, and one that the Royals will be pleased with.
