After 90 breath-taking minutes Newcastle emerged as champions in the Royals and Magpies first ever league meeting.

Reading were fored into an early substitution, Stephen Hunt left the field and was replaced by Glen Little.

But Little’s arrival was timely and Reading soon equalled the scoring through James Harper.

Harper was laid on by John Oster, and found nothing but net with a mean low shot thast took a deflection off Solano to beat Shay Given.

Harper struck again this after Given parried a Glen Little shot into his path, the Royals maintained their lead into the second half.

Newcastle were gifted an unjust penalty after referee, Rob Styles, judged Sonko to have upended Obafemi Martins. Martins then converted the penalty.

It seemed Sibierski had scored his second of the night just minutes later, but his effort was offside.

With just six minutes left to play Newcastle won the game, midfielder Emre strode deep into the Reading half and fired a missle of a shot that was going no where but in the back of the net.
