Jem Karacan has spoken some sense in the media recently, explaining how pre-season really don’t matter!

The Royals lost three of their six pre-season games, two of which were against lower-league sides, as well as Premier League opponents Swansea. Some rather fickle fans have been panicking about those losses, but the Turkish midfielder says we should not be demotivated by those defeats.

Speaking to the Reading Post, Jem said: ‘We have to learn from our mistakes, that’s what it’s all about in pre-season. I don’t think we should be too disheartened from it all. It’s been a good pre-season. The
gaffer is still putting his implement on the team.’

‘It’s going to take time. But we’re loving every minute of it and we can’t wait for the Ipswich game now. I just banged knees with the lad up front and he’s not the smallest of guys. It was a just a bit sore but it was only a precaution. I’ll be fine.’

Jem speaks a lot of sense here; pre season is not about results and more improving fitness and performances. On the whole, I think it has been a good pre-season too. It may not have been very good against Bristol Rovers, but we can take heart from Portugal and the Bristol City game.
