Just as we thought our injury crisis was all but over, it seems it could be getting a lot worse.

The former Newcastle midfielder was set to start against Bournemouth, but was injured in the warm up with a calf problem, an injury which has already affected him this season. Guthrie will have a scan later in the week, but could be out for at least another month.

Speaking to the Reading Post, Adkins spoke about his injury by saying: ‘We weren`t aware of anything wrong before the Bournemouth game. He`s had a similar injury having played on a very soft pitch earlier this year. It`s something we didn`t anticipate. It`s a real shame.”

The likelihood is that Guthrie will miss the remaining give games of the season, but could be fit if we make the play-offs. Danny Williams is another player who was injured in the build-up to the game with knee swelling, but isn’t as serious as Guthrie’s injury.

It was obvious on Tuesday night that we are a much better side with Guthrie and Williams in the side and if we were to not have them both for the run in, I really doubt our play-off chances. On the other hand, it was good to see Leigertwood back in action Tuesday night though.
