It was a game we created enough chances to have got at least a point from, however our strikers wasted good oppurtunities to break the deadlock. Shane Long headed over twice, Noel Hunt saw his effort saved and Simon Church put the best of the lot over the bar when he really should have scored.

Speaking to BBC Radio Berkshire after the game McDermott said, ‘Yes it worries me, its always a worry when your strikers are not scoring goals.’

He was however full of praise for the Royals fans who gave former manager Brendan Rodgers a good reception before and after the game.

‘He rightly got a good reception and I was really pleased. There’s no reason he shouldn’t have got that reception, he was a good servant to the club and it shows that the Reading fans are a class act, and our club is a class act.’

Despite the defeat he was as positive as ever and does not want us to get this feeling too often this season.

‘Prior to this game we got a lot of points at home, long may that continue. We need to remember this feeling because we don’t want it too many times this season.
We had opportunities in the game and it was disappointing to lose at home in front of our home fans.’
