McDermott: We were unfortunate not to get anything

Reading boss Brian McDermott has reflected on his side’s 1-0 loss to Liverpool yesterday, saying the Royals were unfortunate to not get a point from the game.

The Berkshire outfit are still looking for their first win of the Premier League campaign, but it did not come against their former manager Brendan Rodgers of Liverpool. A 29th minute effort from Raheem Sterling was enough to give the Reds all three points, despite a spirited second half showing from Brian McDermott’s side.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC Website: ‘At the end of the game you could see their supporters, their staff, they were very relieved to get a result. We’ve come to Anfield and I think we’ve been unfortunate not to get a point. So we move on with a lot of positives today. In the first half they played well and it was a good finish.’

‘It was funny because all the passing movement that they created didn’t really hurt us, and yet one ball over the top got them in and he finished it really well. We’ve got to start the game at 3 o’clock, we’ve got to get going in games straight away, pass it like we can. I know we can pass it, I know we can play, and we’ve got pace in our team.’

Fans that are starting to question McDermott’s abilities in the Premier League need to take a firm look at themselves and strongly consider the squad he has to work with. It was always going to be a struggle this season, but lets judge in our next three games, which are very winnable from our point of view against Fulham, QPR and Norwich.
