Reading boss Brian McDermott is once again ruing another decision that has gone against his side, after Newcastle’s equaliser yesterday should never have stood.

Striker Demba Ba scored an 83rd minute equaliser for Alan Pardew’s side, but replays show that the Senegalese international seemed to handle the ball into the net. Despite this injustice, the Royals played superbly throughout the game. Reading twice had the lead through Jimmy Kebe and Noel Hunt, but Ba’s sublime volley put the game on level terms.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, McDermott said: ‘I’m gutted for the players because we deserved to win the game. When you see the goal back it’s such a shame because they’ve made a massive error. It’s not just happened to us once this season, we had the offside goal at Chelsea so we’re not getting a lot of help with big decisions.’

‘It was blatant, we knew straight away on the bench, our ‘keeper has gone toward the other corner and if someone puts their arm out like that it’s handball. Whether it was deliberate or not, it was handball. He went to head it, but he definitely didn’t head it! But we were fantastic and played really well.’
