Reading boss Brian McDermott has revealed he is in talks with several players and clubs over potentially adding to his squad.

The former Slough manager is a man that doesn’t like to reveal specific names as he finds it disrespectful to do so.

Speaking to the official RFC site, McDermott said: ‘We’ve got a couple of players that we’re trying to get, and we shall see what the outcome is.’

‘We’d try to sign them if we could, one is an experienced player and one I would regard as a work in progress. We’ve been speaking to one club for a long period, and the other club for a week or so.’

These players that McDermott is hinting at are most likely to be defenders, with Ibrahima Sonko rejecting the clubs last contract offer.

Players linked have been Sunderland defenders Nyron Nosworthy and Matt Kilgallon, with Wes Worgan and Arsenal youngster Gavin Hoyte other names mentioned from several sources.

However, some fans are calling for McDermott to strengthen up front with the sale of Shane Long to West Brom. When quizzed on the matter, he said: ‘If something comes our way, and it’s right for us, then fine. But having said that, I ask anyone to find somebody available who could fill Shane Long’s shoes.’

‘I look at the four we’ve got – Manset, Churchy, Hal Kanu, Hunty, and then Brett Williams, who we have to wait for a little bit, we’ve got strikers here who can make the difference.’

Various strikers have been linked following Long’s departure such as Matt Tubbs, Sanchez Watt, Adam le Fondre and some reports are claiming Reading FC scouts are watching MK Dons forward Sam Baldock.
