Three weeks to the day after being sacked by owner Anton Zingarevich, Brian McDermott has spoken publicly since his sacking.

The 51-year old appeared in the public domain on the Sky Sports show Goals on Sunday, where he revealed all about his sacking. Brian spoke about the process of losing his job, his immediate successor and Anton’s decision to relieve him of his duties. It is also worth noting McDermott is the current favourite for the Leeds managers post.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Brian said: ‘I thought I would be at Reading forever, but the club are now going in the direction they are going in and they have a good guy – I like Nigel Adkins. I loved the Premier league and for me it is about the next challenge – I was hungry before, but this has made me even hungrier.’

‘It came as a shock – a real shock. I can’t say I agree with his decision but I will never have a problem with Reading football club. He is the custodian for the fans and he is doing what he thinks is right for them. He said because of the results and performances they were going to move on from immediate effect.’

Brian also went onto say how happy he would be if Reading stayed up, which is a true reflection of the man and his affection for the club. However, I don’t think he can argue with Anton’s decision, as Brian clearly made mistakes at the wrong times (team selections, January dealings, etc.), which has cost us in recent months.
