Reading manager Brian McDermott has said that his team showed tremendous character coming back twice against Fulham, claiming most sides in the division could not have achieved it.

It was going well enough for the Royals at half time, going in 1-0 up and playing some neat football against Martin Jol’s side. However, Bryan Ruiz scored a superb equaliser, with Chris Baird swinging the game in the favour of Fulham. Despite this, Reading came from behind twice to earn a point at the Madejski Stadium to take them up a place to 18th.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, McDermott said: ‘We need to have that mindset, games of football are won between the ears and fundamentally it’s about what we do with the ball. In the second half we had a chance to go 2-0 up and if we do that it’s game over. In the first half we played some really good stuff and got ourselves in front.’

‘We’ve taken the lead four times in the Premier League, which is a real positive in terms of getting on the front foot but now we need to finish games off. We’ve been working on it and we’ve done that so well over the last couple of years. it was phenomenal and the players deserve a lot of respect for that, not many teams would have got a result from there.’

Many ask is this a point gained or a point lost? When you look at the context of the final 5 minutes, I suppose its a point gained. Although, if we want to stay in this division then we need to be winning games like this on our home turf and in terms of McDermott’s decisions, some substitutions need to be made quicker.
