McDermott: I’m proud of the players

Reading boss Brian McDermott has spoke of his pride of his players, as they picked up their seventh win in a row against Portsmouth last night.

The Royals overcame the financial-troubled club 1-0 in a rather uninspiring game at the Madejski Stadium last night. Striker Noel Hunt scored the only goal of the game in 24th minute and continued the fantastic defensive record that has seen the Reading backline concede just one goal in those seven games.

McDermott told the official RFC site: ‘We keep things in our hands, we give the opposition every respect and with the right performance we get results. Everyone should be really, really proud of the group of players we’ve got here. Tonight we’ve done our job and got a good three points.’

‘I’m proud of the players. That’s six clean sheets in seven games with seven wins, the players don’t get the credit they deserve. Of course as a group ourselves we give them credit, myself, the staff, each other, we are a tight knit bunch. So if we’re under the radar that’s not an issue to me.’

The Berkshire side now find themselves still in third position but just three points off league leaders Southampton with a game in hand. Reading’s game in hand will be against relegation-threatened Doncaster next Tuesday, with the Royals due to play against Leicester at home this Saturday.
