McDermott honest but clearly not good enough

Brendan Rodgers always tried to put a postive spin on poor performances but Brian McDermott seems to have gone the other way and his assesment of the defeat to Plymouth was honest and fair.

‘We had a really bad day and I am am really disappointed. If you come to a place like this and don’t win your individual battles that will happen’ He told www.Readingfc.co.uk.

He continued, ‘Plymouth have come out on top in headers, tackles, movement, the basics of football. I don’t know where that performance has come from, I didn’t expect that.’

You can’t be fairer than that but anyone of the 936 travelling supporters could have said exactly the same and this performance summed up the need for the Royals to appoint a new manager ASAP. And that man must be experienced unlike McDermott.

Long serving McDermott is clearly a great Scout, and indeed coach, but management is clearly one step too far and we must act quickly and not appoint the cheap or convenient option.

McDermott had one final word on the travelling supporters and told the players to expect criticism after that display. ‘Our supporters have travelled a long way and I have told the players any criticism we get, we take on the chin because that must not happen again.’
