McDermott content with Rangers point

Reading manager Brian McDermott has said his side’s point against QPR yesterday was a positive one, despite still looking for their first victory.

It was the fourth time this season that Reading went in ahead at half time, thanks to Kaspars Gorkss 16th minute goal, but once again the Royals struggled to hold their lead and their resistance was broken down by Djibril Cisse’s equaliser on 66 minutes. Despite this, McDermott is relatively pleased with the point his team deservedly earned.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, McDermott said: ‘It’s a positive point and a great reaction from what happened on Tuesday. We were 1-0 up today, could have gone further ahead and if we get a second it would have been done and dusted. We started brightly, it was an open game and our performance today was a good one away from home.’

‘We’ll take the point and move on. As I mentioned it was a great reaction from the cup game. I know exactly what happened on Tuesday, at no point were we opened up in the 90 minutes, a couple of set plays and a long ball did us. That was just a freak game and I put virtually the same team out because I thought it was the right team for today.’

I agree with McDermott certainly that yesterday was a point gained, but this win needs to come sooner rather than later. All Reading fans have certainly used the phrase ‘next game is a must win’ quite often, but next week’s home encounter with Norwich really will be that. If we fail to win, I can see it being a long winter for the Royals faithful.
