Royals chairman Sir John Madejski hopes new signing Danny Williams will follow in the footsteps of former American players.

The United States international signed a four-year deal with the Royals yesterday and becomes the third USA international to play for Reading, behind Marcus Hahnemann and Bobby Convey. Madejski hopes the success of the previous American players will shadow that of Williams’ career.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website about the signing, Madejski said: ‘I would like to begin by officially welcoming Danny to Reading Football Club, these are exciting times for the club and Danny`s acquisition is another step forward for us.’

‘I remember American players Marcus Hahnemann and Bobby Convey doing very well in a Reading shirt in recent years and I am certain Danny will do the same. We have seen many players grow and flourish at Madejski Stadium and we wish Danny every success in following that path.’

Despite Williams playing for the United States, he was born in Germany, with his father being America and his mother being German. He seems very highly rated by many journalists over in the States and we will be interviewing one of those admirers in the next few days.
