Former Reading striker Dave Kitson is going to relish his return to the club and has spoke very fondly about his former side.

The Royals face Kitson’s current side Sheffield United in the fourth round of the FA Cup this afternoon and will be the 33-year old’s second return to the Madejski Stadium since leaving in 2008. Brian McDermott still keeps in contact with the forward, with the pair still being very good friends from his five year tenure in Berkshire.

Speaking to the Blades’ Official website, Kits said: ‘It is always nice to return to the Madejski because I had five fantastic years there and I still know a lot of people who have worked there for a number of years, who are good friends. The people behind the scenes there are the fabric of the club and I always seem to get a good reception from the fans.’

‘For the most part it was a brilliant time, I had the honour of playing my part in such an unbelievable team who had a desire to win that I had never seen before. That hunger and willingness to fight for each other, coupled with a decent level of ability was the main reason behind our promotion and record points haul.’

‘Some players never find that in their career and I was extremely lucky to find a club that suited me perfectly and around me I had fantastic players who all complimented each other. I was at the peak of my career so even now I know how fortunate I was to be at Reading and I look back on those years with great fondness.’

I think there is no doubt Kitson will get a great reception from the Madejski faithful, despite his £5.5 million move to Stoke over four years ago. Like Brian said, on his day, he was capable of playing for England and had injury not hindered his peak playing days, he could have reached those international heights.
