Kitson Hopes For New Contract

And while Reading try to sign down manager Steve Coppell and midfielder Steve Sidwell there is one player who needs no chasing to sign a new contract – but he still hasn`t got one!

Dave Kitson has stated his intentions of pledging his foreseeable future to the club by signing a contract extension.

Talking to the Reading Evening Post, Kitson was more interested to talk about a new contract rather then Reading`s chances of playing in Europe:

“I don`t even think about Europe to be honest, I`m just thinking about trying to win a new contract and get some security.”

Kitson had a nightmare start to his dream Premiership season, after suffering an injury in the opening day victory against Middlesbrough, he was forced to sit on the sidelines for almost 6months as he suffered from a succession of injuries.

And with his season finally beginning in January, Kitson was keen to show he hadn`t lost the goal scring touch. Kitson found the net in his first full game back for the club, netting the opener against Birmingham in the FA Cup.

Kitson has also proved to be a provider to, being pivotal in Leroy Lita`s second goal in the 2-0 win over Man City and also in Sidwell`s second against Villa last weekend.

“To come off the bench and create like I did on Saturday is more like the Dave Kitson of last year.”

The run of injuries saw a change in character from the Kitson the press were used to, fed-up and depressed by his bad luck Kitson moped through interviews and press conferences. But now fit and raring to go the cocky and confident Kitson we became so used to has returned:

“I don`t feel I have to prove myself again because I have been out for so long. I`d be confident that I`d get one because the club knows what I am capable of.

“I don`t think there is a player quite like me up front. It`s nice to have that variation.”

With Kitson back to top form on and off the pitch there will be plenty of competition to be one of Reading`s starting strikers, and Kitson will have to work hard to get a starting place.

In the meantime Kitson will concentrate on keeping his game sharp in the hope that he will get a new deal with Reading soon:

“I still have next season to run yet and no talks have taken place, but I would like to get a new deal.”
