January window blank from Reading

As we expected, nothing was done in or out on deadline day, but it wasn’t the matter of not trying.

No serious offers were made for players coming into the club, with the financial insecurity meaning we were not in a position to do so. However, interest in our players seemed to be high, with Cardiff making a late bid for Le Fondre and Swansea reportedly showing an interest in Garath McCleary & Alex McCarthy.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, director of football Nick Hammond revealed that: ‘It’s been a busy day on the phone but we fended off interest in our players. In that respect I’m really pleased because it is massively important to keep the squad together for the second half of the season.’

As good as it was to keep our key players, no incomings does make the window quite disappointing overall. This is the first January window that we have signed nobody in ten years, which is a shocking stat. I’d like to think that we will try and exploit the loan market in the next few weeks for an attacking midfielder.
