It’s Hamer time

Young goalkeeper Ben Hamer signed a new 2 year contract at the Madejski Stadium on Tuesday, the third of our crop of young keepers to sign a new deal in recent months.

Hamer, who is currently on loan at Brentford, had been out of contract this summer but will now stay until at least the summer of 2012.

His performances at Griffin Park are starting to get noticed, and he has only conceded 3 goals in the last 6 games for the Bee’s. He is a fans favourite there, but is still desperate to dislodge Adam Federici and become Royals number 1.

Speaking to the Official Site after signing the deal, he said

‘Fed’s has been a difficult man to budge but I want to prove to everyone that I am a good goalkeeper and I have not had a run of games to do that here yet.’

It’s a fantastic achievement to have so many great young keepers, but there will have to come a time in the next year or so when one of them breaks into the first team. Perhaps that might come when Federici is sold?
