Hunt Hoping to Close Gap at Watford

Following Reading’s emphatic six nil win over Sheffield Wednesday, Royals midfielder Stephen Hunt is hoping that the team can now find a bit of form and close in on Wolves and Birmingham.

The midlands clubs have set an early pace and are already six points ahead of the Royals and Hunt is looking to Saturday’s game at Watford to begin bridging the gap.

Despite three wins out of three at home, the Royals are yet to win away this season and Hunt sees finding some away form as the key to success.

He told the club’s official site: ‘We’re up to fourth and hopefully we can get on a little run now. Fingers crossed we can find some consistency and have the confidence to go and beat teams away as well.

‘The key to winning away is desire. We need a mental attitude that can win us the game. We weren’t at it when we played Ipswich, which was there for everyone to see.

‘We’ve got a good result, but we’ve not reduced the six point gap, which is a bit annoying. We would have liked to have been closer to the top of the league. But come the end of the week, hopefully we’ll have had a good game on Saturday and that will edge us closer.’

Stephen’s brother Noel scored two in Tuesday’s win over Sheffield Wednesday and Hunt is hoping he will soon be joining him in the Ireland set-up, he continued: ‘He’s been waiting for his chance and he took his two goals very well. He knows what he’s capable of doing and hopefully some of the Irish set up will see what he’s capable of doing as well.

‘It’s up to Mr Trappatoni of course. It would be great for him, but he’s not going to get carried away. He’s got a tough game Saturday to come and if we can keep him as low key as we can that’ll be great.

‘He’s done well for us this week, but he needs to get his head down now and get ready for Watford, just like the rest of us. We need to recover and go from there.’
