Vital Reading has been asked to forward this opportunity onto Royals fans, to rekindle some previous memorable moments in your time as a Reading fan. Those of the older generation will remember the Simod Cup win in 1988 and the famous 1995 play-off final against Bolton, while the more recent generation will remember the heartbreak of the 2011 play-off final against Swansea. Read the following piece and you can have your story published in a new book.

REMEMBER THAT MATCH WHEN?

Every football fan has memories of a match that was special for them in some way or other?maybe it was the first time you ever went to a game or the first time you followed your club away. You might remember a particular match because your dad took you or as a parent you may have continued the family tradition by taking your kids to games? An outstanding score line where your team hammered the opposition might be the reason a particular match is still remembered today or equally you may still have nightmares about that 0-6 drubbing you were on the receiving end of against your local rivals!

A massive part of football in this country is the build up to a game where we talk, discuss, read up and speculate about what might happen and then post match we again talk, discuss, dissect and analyse what actually took place yet one thing is certain in that we all have our own viewpoint and opinion as to the events of a particular match and often when we compare notes with someone else who was at the same stadium, watching the same match you could be forgiven for thinking ‘surely this person must be blind, confused or a deluded fan of the other team because they sound like they have just witnessed a totally different 90 minutes to the one you just saw and that`s exactly why we all love the game so much, because we can ‘tell it how we saw it`
Now is your opportunity to tell the football world how you saw it in a new book soon to be published! Send in your story of your memories of that particular match that you will never forget…

Was it the first match you ever went to and what do you remember about it? Was it at your old ground that no longer exists or did you go to the first ever game at one of the many new stadiums that has been built in recent years? Which was the first away ground you ever went to and what was it like? Can you remember the events and atmosphere? Did you win or did you lose? Was your team ripped to shreds by their star striker or did your boys inflict damage on the opposition? Do you remember a particular game because there was so much riding on the result? Were you promoted or relegated? Did you win the league or cup? Or was it simply the fact that your derby rivals would have to keep their traps shut for another season because you stuffed them good and proper?! Have you ever set off for a game where strange circumstances have conspired to make you late thereby you missed all the goals or indeed failed to get to the match at all?

Whatever your story might be, share it with other football fans across the country by writing it down and sending it in to me and I will include it in the book.

I am a published author and I am now embarking on a new venture, a book about football by the people who know football, THE FANS! I would like to feature your contributions on how real fans feel about their club. You can talk about the highlights and the low points, the memories, the nostalgia, in fact anything you want to get off your chest. Here is an opportunity to be heard. So, if you are interested in having your say then please email me your stories and feeling, this is your chance to make sure your memories of ‘your team` live on forever!

Please send your story to: lloyd.thompson@blueyonder.co.uk
